Bread Machine Sesame and Poppy Seed Bagels

How many of you received a bread machine as a wedding gift? Now how many use it?  I just pulled mine out again realizing that it is good for making dough too! Who knew? Maybe you did, but mine was on top of my fridge as if it was part of my decor.

Ingredients:
1 cup warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
3 cups flour
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
3 quarts boiling water
3 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 egg white
3 tablespoons poppy seeds, or sesame seeds

Directions:
Place water, salt, sugar, flour and yeast in the bread machine pan in the order by the manufacturer.
Select Dough setting.  Mine takes an hour and a half to complete.  When done, let dough rest on a floured surface.

Meanwhile, in a pot bring 2 quarts of water to a boil. Stir in 3 tablespoons of sugar.
Cut dough into 9 equal pieces, and roll each piece into a small ball.
Flatten balls. Poke a hole in the middle of each with your thumb. Twirl the dough on your finger or thumb to enlarge the hole, and to even out the dough around the hole. Cover bagels with a clean cloth, and let rest for 10 minutes.

Sprinkle an ungreased baking sheet with cornmeal. Carefully transfer bagels to boiling water. Boil for 1 minute, turning half way through. Drain briefly on clean towel. Arrange boiled bagels on baking sheet. Glaze tops with egg white, and sprinkle with your choice of toppings.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree F oven for 20 to 23 minutes, until browned.

You can also make a honey cinnamon cream cheese to go with these.

All you need it a brick of cream cheese, 2 tbsps honey, and a 1/4 tsp of cinnamon.  Mix together. It helps to soften your cream cheese first, so it mixes better.

Glass Redo Projects

I bought this brown glass (below) many years ago from a thrift shop.  My husband spray painted it red for me.  I love it.  He did do a base coat first which I think was a light brown or something.

What a difference a coat of paint makes!  This is now the coffee pod holder!
He also painted some of my Ball jars too!  We wrapped newspaper around them and used some painters tape.  He sprayed the inside of the jars.  This one I put rocks in the bottom and then put some Crimson Flowers in it. This way the plant can drain.  I'm doubt putting holes in the bottom of these jars would work out very nicely.

This made a great Mother's day gift!
I hope all you Mother's out there had a great day Sunday!  I know I did!

Homemade Breadcrumbs

 Ingredients:
1 Loaf of Day old bread or remnants. I used a leftover half loaf that I put in the freezer and just brought out for this.  No waste here!
2 tablespoons dried oregano or thyme
2 tablespoons dried basil or parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon pepper, or to taste

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F.

Cut the bread into cubes, and process the cubes in a food processor to make coarse crumbs.

Spread the crumbs on a baking sheet – use two baking sheets if necessary – and dry the coarse crumbs in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring halfway through the baking time.

Let the crumbs cool completely and return them to the food processor, add the seasonings, and pulse until the crumbs are well-mixed with the seasoning.

Make sure seasoned bread crumbs are dry and cool before storing in an airtight container.  You can also store them in the fridge. They will last for up to 6 months!

Now you can bread anything you wish; vegetables, poultry, or fish.

With the prices of food going up, as is everything else, this is a great way to save a little dough...get it? Oh well. It's too early in the morning.

Embroidered Linen and Burlap Sign

Spring is definitely in the air. The next five days say sunny and at least in the 40's...that's a heat wave for us around Chicago. My tulips in front of my house are already coming up!

In the spirit of Spring, I did up these Burlap and linen embroidered Spring signs. I stuffed them with some cotton and added a wood leaf button.

My baby seems kinda aloof to the whole thing.  Quietly reading by the bookcase. Ok. Probably not reading, but definitely paging through ALL of our books.

You can make your own Spring sign or you can grab one from my shop here.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!  What are you going to do?
